Ron English Collaborates With Ron English?
Artist Ron English does it again, he created a set of paintings that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also seem to leave an impression on you. As I waltz around Opera Gallery, where the exhibition was held, I was impressed with the amount of detail and vivid colors in Mr. English’s artwork. After acknowledging the artwork, I saw one that I really loved. I snapped a picture and was ready to share it with via the Artsnapper App and my other social media platforms. As I was sharing my insight about the artwork I realized that it was not a photography what I had snapped, but rather an actual painting. I couldn’t believe it but in order to really verify that it was a painting I had to get so close that I could smell the paint (literally).
Although I was impressed with the artwork I still couldn’t truly understand the reason behind his creation. But after discussing the work with my colleagues and speaking to other gallery goers it finally daunt on me.
For many years Ron English has created many alter-egos and constructed a universe in which complementary characters co-exist as one. They are both children and men, infant and hulk, marching to war wearing helmets emblazoned with peace signs. These diverse set of characters display a sense of imagination that only a child possess, but that are brought to life by an Artist with a photo-like painting technique.
Ron English’s Crucial fiction is a series of paintings that reveal an inspired collaboration with his former self. The artwork was extremely well done and his ability to bring to life the elaborate vision of the 8 year old version of himself is impressive.
I would encourage you to visit Opera Gallery and catch the show, which will be available till November 29th (2012).
Mr. English’s his work has been feature in documentaries such as ”Supersize Me“, he has done album covers such as Chris Browns FAME album and has created political images such as Abraham Obama. So if you do not know who he is I would also encourage you to check out his website.
Lastly, I would tell you all that Mr. English is cool. As usual, he took pictures with his fans, mingled with the common folk and gave plenty of autographs. For those of you that do not know, his work is tres expensive, but I must say, it is well worth it. Leave that in the back of you brains. Peace, art, and madness!
